Windows 10 Update stops Windows Mobile Device Center
The problem
Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) does not start or hang when you connect your scanner to your Windows 10 PC after a Windows Update. The problem was caused by the Windows 10 Creators Update in August 2017 (Version 1703) but may recur after any Windows Update.
The Solution
1 In Search (Cortana .. usually next to the Start button in Windows 10), type Services
2At the top of the list it should display Services Desktop app, Click on the Services app, it will open up the services screen.
3Once the Services app has opened, it will display all the installed and running services. Scroll down until you reach the Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity service.
As per below, the service is NOT running.
4Double-click on the Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity service.
The service will open.
Click on Log On.
ENSURE the the Local System account is selected.
Click APPLY, window will close.
5Right Click on Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity service. Click on START.
ENSURE the the Local System account is selected.
Click APPLY, window will close.
6Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity service will now show it is Running.
Windows Mobile Device Center should now run correctly.
